Fall is here, and Halloween and pumpkin patches are just around the corner. So, grab the family and head up to Gilcrease Orchard to pick your own fresh produce.
Thanks to the Gilcrease Family and their generosity, a 60 acre patch of the most fertile farming land in the Las Vegas area is still preserved. Located on the north side of town, Gilcrease Orchard is 60 acres of agricultural land where you can visit and hand pick your own fruits and vegetables throughout the year.
The two Gilcrease brothers, Ted and Bill kept this wonderful farm alive for many years. This was the Brothers’ dream, that the Orchard would be a place where families could bring their children and enjoy a sampling of the kind of life the brothers knew. They wanted to preserve this unique gem where the community can pick food fresh off the tree or vine and see, feel, and taste the difference.
The Gilcrease Orchard also operates one of the best pumpkin patches in the West! The Pumpkin Patch will be opening September 26th. At this time, they are open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 am until 2pm. Come out early to beat the heat. They even offer a free Gilcrease Orchard app available to download that has a GPS locator that shows you where you are in relation to the produce you want to pick.
Entrance to the Orchard is FREE, however, some changes will be made this fall season.
- There will be NO wagon rides or Hay maze or seating for concessions this season in response to social distancing regulations.
- The visual bee hive and chicken coop will not be available to visit.
- Apple cider donuts will be sold as TO GO orders only.
They also have items for sale at the check out such as peanut butter and almond butter, kettle corn, and famous apple and pear cider.
You can always check out their website here for a current list of what’s in season. Right now, they are offering:
- To pick- Zucchini, Squash, Granny Smith apples, Sweet potatoes, Cucumbers, Sunflowers
- For purchase- Apple Cider (1/2 and full pints), Kettle Corn, Peanut Butter and Almond Butter, Olive Oil, Apple Cider Donuts and Frosting, and White Pomegranates.

There aren’t many places in the desert where you can pick your own produce, and this place is a delight!
I recommend going the the Orchard early in the day, rather than later. My kids loved running around, and getting some cider and donuts as well. I was raised on a small farm, so I love that my kids can experience all that fresh produce here in this big city. Be sure to wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes, and please leave your pets at home. Gilcrease Orchard is located at 7800 N. Tenaya Way.
