The FIFA Men’s World Cup is taking place this November and December. This giant world sporting event began on Sunday, November 20th, with the final match taking place December 18th, 2022.
In all, 32 teams will compete in a total of 64 games in Qatar. This is the first time that a country in the Middle East is hosting the World Cup. You can see the team groupings and schedule here.
The World Cup is where the best football (soccer, here) teams in the world meet up every four years to crown a champion. It’s kind of like the Superbowl, but on a World stage. In 2018, the winner of the Men’s World Cup was France.
Just like the Men’s tournament, the FIFA Women’s World Cup takes place every four years, with the next Cup in 2023.
How to Watch the FIFA World Cup at Home
All of the 2022 World Cup matches will be broadcast on Fox. Week one brought plenty of upsets with more excitement to come in the final group stage games and beyond. But if you’re looking to watch the World Cup from home, you’ll need to dial in your streaming setup.
If you don’t have cable, there are a couple of options. A digital antenna might run you around $30 on Amazon, which you’ll likely use for more than just the World Cup.
NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock, will offer live streams of all 64 World Cup matches. The remaining games require a Premium subscription (which only costs $4.99 per month). One issue is Peacock’s live streams are coming from Telemundo Deportes, so the commentary is in Spanish.
Or try a live TV streaming service like fuboTV. Fox and FS1 — the two channels with English World Cup coverage in the U.S. — are both included in fuboTV’s extensive channel lineup, so you can watch every game live online. This one runs around $69 a month, which is a bit high, but check out what they offer and see if it will work for you.
Another great live online TV streaming service is Sling. At $40 a month (currently discounted to $20 for your first month), Sling is the cheap live TV streaming service that still delivers a ton of popular channels. The service’s Blue package offers 41 channels, including Fox and FS1 to watch the World Cup live online.
With the group stages drawing to a close in Qatar, the tournament is heading towards its Round of 16 stage. So far, 10 teams, Netherlands, Senegal, England, USA, France, Australia, Argentina, Poland, Brazil and Portugal, have qualified for the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
The Round of 16 will begin on Saturday, December 3rd with the US battling the Netherlands at 7 AM.
