What is the meaning of Valentine’s Day? It can mean many different things for different people. Valentine’s Day is traditionally associated with red hearts, romance, flowers, candy or other sweet things, and the exchange of valentines, that express love.
Valentine’s Day also can mean spending lots of money. Just over half (52 percent) of U.S. adults plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, spending a total of $21.8 billion, according to the annual survey released today by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics.
Nearly three-quarters of consumers celebrating Valentine’s Day feel it is important to do so and to make it a special day. Those celebrating can still expect the classic candy, cards and flowers, or even an evening out.
