Taking your kids (or yourself) outside to some open park space is a welcome respite for all.
The country’s current situation has impacted everyone and has limited our ability to interact with our beloved national, local and state parks. With this in mind, National Park Trust has decided to take the 10th anniversary of Kids to Parks Day digital and instead celebrate Saturday, May 16, 2020, as Parks to Kids Day.
In doing this they hope to provide a much-needed infusion of the outdoors to kids and families as they stay safe at home as the reopening begins. While playgrounds are not yet open, you can enjoy the open park spaces outside. Below are a few of the at-home activities and family resources to help bring the outdoors and parks to kids.
- Build a mini-park with Buddy Bison
- Backyard Scavenger Hunt
- Buddy Bison’s Backyard Bingo
- Buddy Bison’s Veggie Garden
- Design a Nature Collage
- Leaf or Bark Rubbing
- Coloring Sheets & more!
We know that this is not ideal but we also know that we are all in this together. We encourage kids and families to continue their park celebration virtually and bring the parks home to you on May 16th. Better yet, carve out some family time this weekend, find some open space in a park near you and explore!
