Have a Netflix party and watch with your friends

Well, while you can watch with your friends, it really isn’t a party.  But while we are all separated from friends and family, Netflix party allows you to watch your favorite shows and converse together from your own sofas.

We are all supposed to be social distancing right now, so no parties of any kind should be happening at this time. This is a time for staying in and enjoying family- or roommates, whichever you’ve got to quarantine with.

Thanks to modern technology, you can all still watch the same show at the same time as if you were together — but now you can do it online. Netflix Party synchronizes playback between the viewers and adds a sidebar group text chat so you can chat while you watch your favorite shows and movies on Netflix!   And everyone is responsible for their own snacks and beverages, so no hostess stress either! Here’s the best part…it’s FREE.

How to setup a Netflix Party

You must use the Chrome browser on your laptop or desktop, and add the Netflix extension to your computer to start a party. Each user needs to have a Netflix account.

1. Head to the Netflix Party website and click “Install Netflix Party”
2. You’ll land on the Chrome Web Store where you’ll click “Add to Chrome” to install Netflix Party. (its free)
3. Go to the Netflix website and start playing the show or movie you want to watch
4. Create your party by clickng on the red “NP” icon located next to the address bar. Then click “Start Party” to get the party started. Share the party URL to invite friends.

To join a party, you must have a Netflix account. Click on the party URL from your friend, and you’ll be redirected to Netflix’s website. Then click on the “NP” button next to the address bar, and you will automatically join the party. Your video streaming will sync with everyone else in the party.

Anyone in the party watching can hit pause or play for the whole party when you need a bathroom break or a snack refill. (Note: It’s only available on Chrome browsers on desktop or laptop computers.)

You can be the hostess with the most-ess  by choosing a fun user icon and nickname.  Your party can upload screenshots, emojis and GIFs for even more fun!  If you have questions, you can send an e-mail to team@netflixparty.com.
