Tax time is almost upon us. If you have planned ahead and are ready to get your taxes filed, there are lots of options for tax preparation assistance.
The City of Las Vegas is offering residents free assistance with personal income tax form preparation and electronic filing at five city of Las Vegas senior or community centers through April 15.
Volunteers from AARP and the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will be assisting residents in need with their tax preparation and filing. Vita Volunteers are trained to assist in filing tax forms and basic schedules including 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ, for those having a taxable income up to $57,000.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers provide in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone free of charge, with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low-to-moderate income. Taxpayers with complex returns are advised to seek paid tax assistance by both groups.
To have your taxes prepared, advance appointments are required at all locations. You will need to bring a copy of your 2020 income tax return, Social Security card, photo identification and all of your applicable 2021 paperwork to the appointment.
If married, both spouses must be present to file a joint return. Call a center below weekdays to schedule an appointment. Centers are closed Feb. 15 for holiday observance. Go to AARP tax assistance, the Nevada Free Taxes Coalition or IRS Free Tax preparation for additional details and locations for free personal income tax form assistance.
