Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on Monday, January 18, 2021. If you’d like to honor his legacy that day, I’ve compiled a list of things to do on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Las Vegas. Because this is a federal holiday, schools are closed on this Monday every year.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee 38th Annual Birthday Parade
Monday, January 18, 10:00am
This Annual Parade will be held virtually this year, streaming at the link.
The Committee was founded in November 1981 celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by keeping the dream alive. We cordially invite the Las Vegas community to join us in this celebration at the largest parade in the state of Nevada.
Free Entrance Days into U.S. National Parks
FREE entrance is available to 133 National Parks across the country that normally charge a fee. During fee-free days, the parks waive entrance fees, commercial tour fees and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservations, camping, tours, concessions and fees collected by third parties are not included in this promotion. Please see the link for participating parks near Las Vegas.
MLK Day of Service
The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 18, 2021, marks the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Martin Luther King’s Day Code Ninjas – Astro Day Camp
Do you have any plans for the MLK Day Holiday? Are you looking for a kids’ activity? At our Astro Camp Jan 18th, 2021, Ninjas will Design and Code their own game using the Scratch platform with Ninjas favorite Among Us twist. Time: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Cost: $70
Where Do We Go From Here? Documentary Film Festival
The Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University hosts a free, four-day film festival and webinar. The festival features twenty documentaries as well as musical performances and conversations that speak to Dr. King’s unanswered question: “Where do we go from here?”
The films and documentaries cover a range of topics, from the history of the civil rights and anti-apartheid movements to James Baldwin and Martin Luther King’s global visions. Films are organized thematically into days, but registrants can view these films throughout the King Holiday weekend on their own schedules via links sent to your email via Eventbrite on 1/15. Please note that Public Libraries and community Rec centers are closed on MLK Day as it’s a Federal holiday.
